FAQ about Newlife
These are some of our more frequently asked questions.
What denomination are you? Newlife is a member church of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. We are excited about sharing the riches of our gospel heritage with today's generation. We are a Christian Church focused on sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with our community, our city and our world.
Why meet at a University? Why not? The University has great facilities, comfortable seats, airconditioning and ample rooms for Childrens ministry. We read in God's Word that the early Church met in people's homes, by the river and in public houses. While there's nothing wrong with having a building, we're convinced there's absolutely nothing wrong with NOT having a building.
When will you get a building? We will get a building when not having one seriously interferes with our ability to share the gospel with our community. To be honest we're more concerned at building the gospel into the lives of people than in building buildings. God has generously provided us an excellent place to meet and we trust Him to continue to provide for us into the future.
What if I don't know much about God? At Newlife, we want to make your visit a good one - easy, straightforward, uncomplicated. We are intentionally "user-friendly" for people, no matter what their background - you don't have to have church 'figured out' to walk through our door. In fact, many of our people were not regular church attenders before meeting Jesus at Newlife, so you're in good company!
What can I expect if I visit on Sunday?
When you arrive at the university for our 9am Sunday service the first thing you'll notice is that there's ample parking. Once parked you then head towards the main building, you'll see a 'Newlife' sign outside the lobby. Inside the front doors, you'll likely find a friendly face to say hello and answer any questions you have. Take the lift up to level three.
If you've got young kids (prep - grade 3) you can sign them in for Sunday's Cool. We've developed a good security system so you'll know your kids are safe and well cared for. If your kids are shy, they're welcome to attend the adult service with you, but most kids really enjoy our Sunday's Cool kids' program for preschoolers through to grade three.
Just before you enter the auditorium, you'll be given a Notice Sheet and a green 'Newlife Connection Card.' Please fill out this green card as it is a simple way for us to get better acquainted. The one hour service usually begins with some upbeat music led by our music team (drums, guitars, keyboards, vocalists), followed by a welcome and greeting. We have times of prayer, a bible reading and a talk which seeks to unpack and apply the Bible's message.
We then usually close in prayer and receiving the offering of the Newlife members. Please don't feel that you have to contribute, you are our guest, however when the bucket is passed around please pop your completed green card in. After the final prayer we'd love for you to stay and join us for a cuppa or refreshments. It's the perfect time to us to get to know each other better, after all the Church exists to nurture our relationships with both God AND other people. God designed His Church to be a place where we can experience community and friendship, and we trust you will find genuine warmth and openness at Newlife.
That's about it. We hope you'll stop by this Sunday. And if you do, please be sure to introduce yourself to one of our pastors. They would love to meet you!
